Our design ethos
When we started our little 8bit journey we had a vision of reimagining the "adventure in your pocket" premise. Rather than another sword swinging dungeon dive, what I hope we delivered was more of a "moment of contemplation in your pocket" — we know it won't be everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay.
Today we live in a world of scrolling feeds, gifs, Shorts, Tweets, TikToks. Bite sized snack media, and 6 second attention spans. Video-games are going that way too, or alternatively games demand 100s of hours of grinding-time or micro-transactions to advance. Media that asks "how quickly can we get attention and convert it to money" … in contrast we wanted to make something that shared a slower simple philosophical zen-like message of "let it be".
We opted for a game where you could explore without grandiose challenges. Where not everything is perfectly balanced around your existence. Where creatures are creatures and not enemies. Where you exist in a plot, but the plot does not exist around you. At times Avventura does have moments that seem like ”the hero’s quest” because much like life, we sometimes believe we are the hero only to realise we are but one of many humans.
During the making of Avventura my father passed away. A very stoic and philosophical man, I also hope that we could bring some of his spirit of exploration, contemplation, and life-is-finite awareness, to a younger and broader audience.
There is no right way to play "The Last Voyage of the Avventura" but my recommendation is to think of it less like a game that demands conquering, and more like a breath of fresh digital air. If we did it right you might close your device and listen to the real wind.
Please enjoy,
Trevor.

Amazing post. Building is such a rewarding way to reflect, grow and pay tribute. Can’t wait to play this game for a couple of hours :)
